Self-cleaning treatment for porous surfaces

SurfaShield C is a liquid formula developed and produced by NanoPhos S.A., which confers genuine self-cleaning and self-sanitising properties to a wide range of porous surfaces used in construction. It can be applied with a roller, paintbrush or spray. The product exploits developments in nanotechnology, ensuring effectiveness over time and minimal changes to the original appearance of the surface being treated.


Surfaces coated with SurfaShield quickly break down stains of organic origin, bacteria, gaseous pollutants, and even odours. The SurfaShield treatment makes surfaces much safer without the use of dangerous disinfectants or antibiotics, and keeps them looking as good as new. The use of SurfaShield also inhibits the formation of mould and mildew on walls.

How does it work?

SurfaShield C works by absorbing light from the immediate environment and transforming it into a chemical agent. As with a semiconductor catalyst, the nanoparticles in SurfaShield are activated by light and produce short-lived oxidant compounds: oxygen and hydroxyl radicals. Bacteria, viruses, moulds, gaseous pollutants, odours and stains are all attacked and transformed into innocuous inorganic compounds. Therefore the treated surfaces are kept clean in an active way. However, SurfaShield is more than just a coating to protect surfaces: when the light acts on the nanoparticles, the surface becomes superhydrophilic, and as a result the polluting agents are “washed away”. SurfaShield also acts as an air-purifier because it breaks down dangerous organic substances, such as volatile organic components (VOCs), fumes from car exhausts and nitrogen oxides. Effectively, simply by absorbing light, this nanotechnology is permanently providing you with a cleaner, healthier environment.
